Network Architecture

AMI and Broadband Network Planning

Micronet has established strong capabilities in the design and development of networks, whether these are Broadband Wireless WIMAX (802.16), WIFI (802.15), Low Power Ad Hoc Zigbee Networks built on IEEE 802.15.4, Satellite VSAT Networks, Microwave Backbone Networks, etc.

A variety of tools are utilized, including Parametric Propagation Studies, Link Analysis, Cluster Analysis, and Coverage Analysis for specific base station sites.

Parametric Propagation Models

Micronet uses a variety of parametric models in the development of network architectures, primarily to establish typical path lengths that correspond to desired levels of link performance. Each of these have limitations on frequency, minimum path length, minimum base station height, etc. A selection of popular models are listed here. Limitations on frequency range, minimum base station height and minimum propagation distances are noted for reference.

Model Frequency Range (MHz) Minimum Base Station Height (m) Minimum Distance (Km) Comments
Free Space Loss 30 +
Hata 150 - 1500 30 1 Subscriber station heights from 1-10 m
Okumura 150 - 3000 30 1 Requires extrapolation from curves for specific frequencies
Cost 231 1500 - 2000 30 1
Cost 231 Walfisch-Ikegami 800 - 2000 30 for LOS component only 0.02 Has both LOS and NLOS Components
Wideband PCS Microcell 1900 MHz 3.7 1.7 Has both LOS and NLOS Components
